Applying for Council Housing

If you want to access Council or Housing Association accommodation, or need advice about your present housing circumstances, then you need to contact the Housing Needs Team. We deal with applications for housing, the allocation and letting of Council homes, and nominations to most local Housing Association accommodation.

In addition to providing housing services to our existing tenants who want to move home or exchange tenancies, we have a responsibility to provide housing advice and assistance to people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.

The Housing Needs Team can provide a wide range of free and confidential advice on housing matters including:

• Mortgage or Rent Arrears
• Homelessness prevention and the Council's legal duty to the Homeless
• Joining The Housing Register
• Joining The Mutual Exchange Register or applying for an exchange
• Letting a Garage
• Housing Associations
• Shared Ownership and other forms of low cost housing purchase
• Renting a home in the private sector
• Any several other types of Housing Advice
