Battery recycling and disposal


Household & rechargeable batteries

You can recycle your household and rechargable batteries commonly found in torches, hearing aids, camcorders, calculators, watches, radios, cameras, and toys at your local community recycling centres managed by Surrey County Council. These are at:

  • Bond Road in Warlingham
  • Chaldon Road in Caterham

You can now also recycle these in Oxted! Tandridge District Council has installed a household and rechargeable battery bank as a trial and it can be found at:

  • Council Offices, Station Road East in Oxted. Available in the reception during office hours (8:30am-5pm Monday to Thursday, and 8:30am-4:30pm Fridays)

Examples of batteries accepted are:

  • AAA
  • AA
  • C cells
  • D cells
  • PP3 cells

Examples of battery types:

  • Alkaline
  • Nickel cadmium
  • Nickel metal hydride
  • Lithium Ion
  • Zinc carbon

 

Battery recycling - do the positive thing

Car batteries

Car batteries can also be recycled by Surrey County Council. Please take them to your local community recycling centre and place them in the allocated bay.

 

Mobile phone batteries

These can not currently be recycled by Surrey County Council and should not be placed in the dustbin if at all possible.

You could try contacting the suppliers of the battery for information on take back schemes or why not look up whether a charity of your choice if offering a freepost recycling scheme such as Help the Aged.
