Owner or occupier of land
Owners and occupiers have a responsibility under the Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949 to keep their land free from rats and mice. In appropriate circumstances Tandridge can require owners and occupiers to treat rodent infestations and to carry out necessary works to keep their land free from rats or mice.
There are strict laws over the use of rodenticides which must be used in accordance with the manufacturers instructions to ensure that the treatment is effective and do not pose a risk to non-target animals.
The council has a free pest control service for domestic properties with rat problems and for some other pests depending on individual circumstances. For further details, please see below for the type of pest problem you have.

Rats
All rat infestations in domestic properties within the Tandridge District Council area will be treated free of charge. Residents with an infestation in their house or garden should telephone on 01883 732998 to arrange a treatment.

The Council may pay for the treatment of these pests where the resident can show that they are in receipt of the following benefits:

If your pest problem is not a rat and you are not in receipt of means tested benefit you can contact Balcombe Pest Control directly on 01444 811916 to arrange treatment for pest control services at your own expense. Treatments
Tandridge is keen to ensure that the pest control contractor provides a high quality service. At the beginning of a treatment the resident will be given a form explaining how the treatment will be carried out and a description of the poison used.
Advice is also given on the nature of the treatment and any precautions that are necessary. Repairs or pest proofing is not included in the Council's service, neither can dead rats be retrieved from under floor voids, wall cavities or other inaccessible locations.
