Working out your council tax benefit

We take three things into account when we work out your Council Tax bill. These are:

If you are on a low income, you should apply for Council Tax benefit. The amount you get will depend on your and your partner's income. You must live in the property to get this benefit.

Generally If you have savings of more than £16,000, you cannot get Council Tax Benefit. This limit no longer applies to pensioners. But if you receive Income based JSA, Guaranteed Pension Credit or are applying for Second Adult Rebate your capital is disregarded in full.

For information on allowances the government can provide click here to visit Department of Work and Pensions
