Housing Benefit is paid by local Councils to tenants who rent their homes. It is part of the Social Security System and the amount that you get depends on your income and family situation. Maximum rent levels of the private sector (not Council or Housing Association properties) are determined by the valuation office and for all new claims are called local housing allowance.
