Grants available for private landlords

Where a rented property is in good order but lacks adequate heating and insulation, the Council can offer a grant under the Private Landlords Energy Award Scheme (PLEASE) for the provision of central heating, boiler replacement and cavity and loft insulation.

The scheme is aimed at encouraging landlords to improve properties for the benefit of their tenants while enhancing the quality and value of the house or flat and reducing the risk of condensation and dampness.

The level of grant will be up to 50% of the cost of eligible works, subject to a maximum value of £2,000. Furthermore, an interest free loan may be provided for up to 50% of the outstanding cost of work, again subject to a maximum of £2,000.

Grants will apply to properties where there has been no previous central heating system, or where the system is so old or inefficient as to be obsolete. Properties will have to be occupied by a tenant at the time of application.

You can download a PLEASE application form by clicking on the link below. This can be completed and returned to these offices to assist your application. The property will need to be inspected by the grant officer and no works should commence prior to the formal approval of the grant.
