Intervening in landlord / tenant disputes

The Council is keen to preserve good and co-operative relations between landlords and tenants in privately rented accommodation.

The vast majority of private tenancies proceed without difficulties. However, the Private Sector Housing Team is prepared to intervene in disputes. In rare occasions where landlords are behaving unreasonably, the Council will use enforcement powers to combat harassment and exploitation under the terms of the 'Protection from Eviction' legislation.

Private tenants or landlords are encouraged to contact the Private Sector Housing Team for advice.
