The Oxted & District LINK Association

LINK is an independent local Charity, founded in 1974, providing a Community Service for all those in need anywhere in the RH8 area.
LINK arranges for volunteer transport for residents who, regardless of age, are otherwise unable to get to Hospitals, the Health Centre, Dentists, Day Centres, Opticians or to collect prescriptions etc.
LINK employs no paid staff and relies entirely on its 150+ volunteers for telephone duty and driving. Telephone and mileage costs are refunded.
LINK makes no charge for its services, relying on modest donations from those helped towards defraying costs.
LINK operates a 12 seat Community Minibus with regular runs from outlying villages into Oxted for shopping. The Minibus, which is adapted to take wheelchairs and has a tail lift, is available for borrowing by other organisations and for private hire (Tel: 732174).

LINK has produced the Directory of Local Services and Businesses for many years, using voluntary resources, and any surplus funds generated from its production are ploughed back into providing the daily services. Copies of the Directory are delivered FREE OF CHARGE to over 6000 houses and businesses in the area. The next edition will be distributed early this summer.

LINK incorporates the LINK Porter Trust, formed from legacies and donations, to make grants to those in need - call 723115 to obtain a claim form.

Thirty Five Years of Service to the Community. Last year:-

LINK drivers picked up and brought home again 1719 (1900 in 2006) residents visiting the Health Centre, Hospitals, Dentists, Opticians etc.

LINK Community Minibus carried 3990 (4352 in 2006) passengers from outlying villages either to or from Oxted and was hired 59 times.

LINK always needs volunteers. Help to the Community can be as:-

• A telephone volunteer - operating from home 9.00 to 5.00 one day every six weeks or so.
• A regular driver - available one half day every two weeks either for local runs or to East Surrey Hospital.
• A reserve driver - who can be asked by the telephone volunteer to carry out occasional runs at times you have indicated as convenient.
• A minibus driver - for either regular or occasional duty.
