Dangerous structure notification Form
If a building or structure is inspected by a building control officer and appears dangerous, the owner will be asked to make it safe or demolish it within a reasonable time.
If the owner does not, the council will get a court order requiring the necessary work to be carried out.
Sometimes immediate action is necessary to ensure safety and the council may take any steps necessary. Expenses may be recovered from the owner.
In cases where the dangerous building or structure is listed as being of special historic or architectural interest, or is an unoccupied building within a conservation area, Tandridge District Council has special powers and duties to ensure the preservation of these buildings, as well as concern for safety or health.
A listed building enforcement notice may be served requiring any necessary work to be carried out within a specific period.
Failure to comply may be considered an offence and a fine imposed on conviction in a court. The council may enter the land and carry out essential remedial work and any expenses reasonably incurred may be recovered from the owner.
