All replacement windows or doors have to comply with building regulations. Click here for useful technical guidance relating to the installation of replacement windows/doors.(Reproduced with the permission of LABC.) Replacement Windows and Doors (Dwellings only)

When you are selling your property, your buyer's surveyors will ask for evidence that any replacement glazing installed after 1 April 2002 complies.

There are two ways to prove compliance:

Any installation carried out by a firm not registered to self-certify, or by a householder, will need full approval under building regulations. The house owner is responsible for ensuring the work complies.

Before you sign a contract to buy replacement glazing, make sure the installer is able to self-certify. If not they or you will need to make an application to the council for approval and pay any relevant charges.

More information is available on the Glass & Glazing Federation website www.ggf.org.uk.
