The Countryside Agency is encouraging communities across the country to prepare Village Design Statements for their village. The concept arose from a growing concern that many villages are losing their identity as a result of unsympathetic development, standardisation and poor design.
The first village in Tandridge to prepare a design statement is Lingfield. The design statement was prepared following community participation and has been adopted by the District Council as Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG). As SPG it is a material consideration in the determination of planning applications within the village.
Developers and residents are encouraged to read the Statement and to have regard to it in preparing their designs for new development or extensions and other work to their properties.
Printed copies of the Statement can be obtained from the Council Offices in Oxted, for £1.00.
A copy of the statement is available as a pdf file (843Kb) by clicking on the following link: Lingfield Village Design Statement
A map of the village showing the settlement boundary and the conservation area is available as a jpeg file (500Kb) by clicking on this link: Lingfield Map
