Local Plan

Introduction
Every year the Council determines more than a thousand planning applications. These range from new houses, agricultural and commercial developments, additions to existing buildings and changes of use of land and buildings and display of advertisements, all of which affect the local community and environment. To help make these decisions the Council has a framework of detailed policies.

In December 2001 the Council adopted the Tandridge District Local Plan as the statutory local plan for the area.

On 15 October 2008 the Council adopted the Core Strategy which sets out new, key policies for the District. Therefore the Core Strategy must be read in conjunction with those parts of the Local Plan that are still in operation.

From 27th September 2007 some of the existing Local Plan policies ceased to have effect. With the adoption of the Core Strategy on 15 October 2008 further Local Plan policies have been superseded. The List of Local Plan policies retained after adoption of Core Strategy shows which local plan policies still apply, which have not been saved and which have been superseded.

It should be noted with the adoption of the Core Strategy, the Green Belt Settlements, as shown on the Local Plan proposals map have been deleted. Therefore until the Council undertakes a sustainability assessment of the villages and considers if any should be reinstated as Green Belt settlements, Green Belt policy will apply to those villages.

The Local Plan Chapters below show which policies were saved in September 2007 and which were not saved, these chapters will be updated shortly to show which policies have been superseded by the Core Strategy.

NB: The list above should also be referred to when using the Planning Portal to view policies.
