Under the Environment Act 1995 and subsequent Regulations, local authorities have to review the present quality of air and the likely future quality of air and assess whether the nationally prescribed objectives are likely to be achieved. Tandridge carried out Updating and Screening Assessments (USA) of air quality in 2003 and 2006. The assessments were intended to identify those aspects that have changed since the first round of reviews and assessments and may require further assessment. If either USA had indicated that pollutants and specific locations required further work then a Detailed Assessment would have been required. The reports can be viewed by clicking on the following links Updating and Screening Assessment 2003, Updating and Screening Assessment 2006.
Progress reports are required to be made in the years when the authority is not carrying out a USA or a detailed assessment of air quality. To view a copy of the progress reports, click the following links Air Quality Progress Report 2004, Air Quality Progress Report 2005, Air Quality Progress Report 2007 and Air Quality Progress Report 2008.
All the reports have been submitted to DEFRA and been accepted. They have also agreed that no detailed assessments are required.
Diffusion tube monitoring of Nitrogen Dioxide
The Council has been monitoring nitrogen dioxide at a number of sites around the district since 1992. These sites are reviewed periodically and, where the results indicate consistent levels over time, the tubes may be moved to new locations. The Nitrogen Dioxide Survey Results 2003-2007 graph shows the annual means for the years indicated. The results have been adjusted for laboratory bias in accordance with good practice.
